Announcements: June 21, 2010
The Annual Statewide Exercise was held starting last Monday 6/14/10.  There was a special communicatopns exercise within the larger exercise.  That communications exercise took place on Wednesday morning 6/16/10.  We tested communications from the State EOC and the State Emergency Communications Vehicle to and from the county EOCs using various modes.  The exercise went well.  We are still collecting reports from the exercise particpants.  Thanks to all who participated.  Do any participants have any reports for the net?
Field Day is this weekend.  I'll be making the rounds with N2ZZ.  This year we will be including North carolina in the tour.  Should be interesting.
The South Carolina Volunteer Emergency Communicator identification cards (R.A.C.E.S) database has been updated.  There were almost 200 records.  I'll let you know when the cards are made.
South Carolina Emergency Management Division has undergone a major restructuring.  The updated organization chart can be found at:  http://www.scemd.org/Who/staff.html.
During the recent canvas of those ARES Leadership positions, several chose to leave those positions.  There now are several vacant ARES Leadership positions.  We will be starting a recruiting effort soon.
Does anyone else have anything for the net?

The annual statewide exercise will be held starting next Monday 6/14/10.
There will be a special commuunications exercise within the larger exercise.  That communications exercise will take place on Wednesday morning 6/16/10.
The plan calls for testing communications from the state EOC to and from county EOCs using various modes.  The amount of time allowed for the testing is very short.  I recommend that you listen carefully to the Net Control Operator and follow the instructions.  I have and will continue to post information regarding the exercise on the ARES-SC website.

I attended the Dayton Hamfest this past weekend.  I had a great time.  I attended many of the Forums and walked all around the flea market and the arena and exhibit halls several times.  I was able to do a lot of networking with people I have to deal with as part of the SEC position.  Yes, my wallet is a little lighter.
The South Carolina Volunteer Emergency Communicator identification cards (R.A.C.E.S.) database has been updated.  The updated file has been sent to SCEMD for making the cards.  There were almost 200 records.  I'll let you know when the cards are made.
I attended a training session on the updated EOC management software WebEOC.  The new look and feel of the software took a little while to get used to.

A Grant was submitted for money to purchase ten emergency communications field kits.  Those kits would contain the necessary equipment for sending eMail over radio via WinLink2000.

I attended the Upstate Hamfest last Saturday.  I enjoyed seeing many of you there.
The South Carolina Volunteer Emergency Communicator identification cards (R.A.C.E.S.) expired on April 1, 2010.  South Carolina Emergency Management Division is extending the expiration date of existing cards.  They sent a letter authorizing the extension.  All current card holders should have received an email with a copy of the letter.  All current card holders should send me either any changes to their contact information or a statement that there are no changes.  Replacement cards will be made at one time after we have the current information.  I have starte updating the database.  Some of you may have already received and email from me stating that your record has been updated.
There will be a DHEC exercise in Columbia on April 21, 2010.  It is named CRI Exercise "Operation Counter Measures."  The all day event involves testing the process of a mass distribution of special medicine during a public health emergency.  Participating agencies have identified the need for more training of their personnel.
